16th-20th March 2004
Jesus Christ Superstar - officially 'Best
Show' 2004!
On June 12th 2004, a packed Longfield Suite in Prestwich
saw Romiley's JCS win the coveted 'Best Musical' award for 2004.
Congratulations also to Simon Hardisty, who won 'Best Supporting
Actor' in his first nomination at the awards. Both Simon and Denise,
who collected the 'Best Muscial' award, were unusually stuck for
words! Well done to everyone involved - especially Simon, as he
essentially won 2 last night!
Also nominated this year were Rod Goddard for 'Best
Director' (an award he won last year for 'Chess'), Claire Sweeney
for 'Best MD' (joint nomination along with Stockport's 'Guys and
Dolls'), Rob Haslam for 'Best Actor' and Catherine Baddeley for
'Best Actress'.
Jesus Christ Superstar closed on 20th March 2004
after a fantastic run, performing to over 4700 people over 6 performances.
Comments such as 'better than professional' and 'awesome' were heard
throughout the week - watch this space for a photo gallery and the
official NODA review.
Jesus Christ Superstar, written by Andrew Lloyd Webber
and Tim Rice, first exploded onto the stage in 1971 and it was clear
that the musical world would never be the same again. Acclaimed
as a masterpiece, it has since attained the status of theatrical
legend. It is packed with hit songs including I Don’t Know How To
Love Him, Gethsemane, Heaven On Their Minds and, of course, Superstar.
Fierce rock rhythms, chunky power chords and heart searing ballads
all combine in Andrew Lloyd Webber’s haunting and unforgettable
score.
From his entry into Jerusalem on Palm Sunday through
to his death at the hands of Pontius Pilate, Jesus Christ Superstar
is an epic retelling of the last seven days in the life of Jesus
of Nazareth from the point ov view of his betrayer, Judas Iscariot.
Telling the story of men and women driven to their fate by forces
beyond their control, this unique musical is as powerful and compelling
today as the day it was written.
